The following review written by one of the Software Informer contributors applies to version 4.2
Algebrator is an excellent application to solve all your algebra problems using a WYSIWYG interface. This comprehensive tool will give you not only the answers you need to make your math assignments shine, but also all the steps needed to get to the solution as well as a full explanation of each of them. It covers problems from pre-algebra to College Algebra, Trigonometry and Statistics. It is not dependent on a specific math book or books, as it is capable of solving “any” math problem you may come up with.
The first thing that grabs your attention when using Algebrator is its simple and clear interface. Yes, it does resemble one of those lined blank pages you already know from your exercise books, making you feel at home right from the start. You can first browse among the different categories listed and select the one that better fits the problem you need solving – equations, inequalities, complex numbers, sequences, functions, logarithms, statistics, and so on. Once that required data has been entered, Algebrator tackles with any task in no time, or it can also explain everything to you systematically, showing you how algebra rules work and why it has chosen this route and not a different one. Besides, for those problems where it is relevant, you can choose to have a graphical representation of the results, which will surely help you better understand the logic behind it.
Sofmath has worked together with InftyReader to include some features that will make this application useful also for those students who are blind or who are visually impaired. InftyReader is a well-known company that applies OCR to complicated scientific documents, and converts all the math expressions in them into MathML, LaTeX, or XHTML documents, which can then be read and processed by those who could not have access to them otherwise. Thus, Algebrator includes this same functionality – namely, the possibility of exporting any expression and its explanation into a more accessible document.
As you see, you can use this program for two reasons – because you do not want to spend more time than necessary solving all your math problems, or because you really want to learn how algebra works and solve all those problems in the process.
